i thought this was interesting US Attorney General John Ashcroft reported that US agents had raided the homes of 5 people suspected of illegally trading copyrighted material. Agents raided homes in Texas, Wisconsin and New York, and seized computers involved.

Ashcroft, viewed by many as a hard-line Attorney General, remarked that "P2P does not stand for 'permission to pilfer'". He also commented that the he believed that the DoJ shouldn't turn a blind eye whilst piracy on such a large scale was taking place.

The targets of the raids were users of popular file sharing program, Direct Connect. The 5 people were acting as hubs; hubs are the Kazaa equivalent of "super-nodes" - users sharing massive quantities of files. Ashcroft said that each of the 5 hubs had 40 petabytes of data in them (ed - this figure seems massively in-correct - and would more likely be 40 gigabytes - perhaps terabytes. The DC website claims to have only just reached 1 petabyte of data network-wide.).

The DoJ hopes to reduce the spread of illegal piracy by taking down these main hubs of copyrighted material distribution. Asides from a physical effect, these raids haev a large psychological effect on the p2p community, as the RIAA and the MPAA have learned to their advantage. Record labels and associations have initiated about 4000 lawsuits over the last 2 years, most of them being settled out of court for $5000.

Nymphetamine Video Shoot

The video shoot for 'Nymphetamine' last week went great. Everyone had a very early start around 7am, obviously with a hangover, and we spent near over 14 hours holed up in a damp underground vault somewhere near the London Dungeon. Pretty grim stuff. The set was huge and had about 5-6 different scenes built.

The director, Dani Jacobs, and his crew were brilliant and worked flat out all day filming with Dani, the band, Liv Kristine, who flew in from Germany especially and two very beautiful actresses. The story is a little twisted as you can imagine. I can't wait to see the finished version. The first edit came through today and it looks stunning and very creepy. We should have it completed early next week. 'Scuzz TV' were also on the set so watch out for exclusive behind the scenes footage! Kerrang magazine were also lurking around so watch the next few issues for news and pics of the shoot.

Everyday now we get to do phone interviews from all over the World and everyone we speak to is pretty fired up to hear the new album. It's a very exciting time. We are now getting down to some more hard work in getting the plans together for the 'Nymphetamine special edition' CD. This will have 5 to 6 extra tracks and exclusive new artwork and is set for release early next year.

Just in: Bad news is that our European tour with U.S. Misery guts Type O Negative, which was set for December, has had to be posponed due to Type O not being able to make the trip at that time. Damn shame. We are now looking at touring Europe around February 2005 with another major support act.
